Spirit HD® is a cost-effective film scanner and telecine in our DataCine® product family designed to transfer film into high-definition (HD) images. Depending on its configuration, it can output both video and data in real time. It also uses the same optical and mechanical components as our groundbreaking Spirit 4K®. Fully upgradeable on site to either a Spirit 2K or Spirit 4K® system, it can grow easily with your business needs.

The Spirit 2K DataCine® system supports telecine and high-speed film scanning applications and offers native 2K real-time scanning functionality. With a scan resolution of 2,048 pixels per line, it is based on the same technology platform as our Spirit 4K® DataCine - in fact, you can upgrade a Spirit 2K to a Spirit 4K system at your facility.

OptiPin is a new film guidance and image stabilization option for Spirit 4K/2K/HD telecines and scanners, which are part of the DFT DataCine® product family.

Optical Touch-Free Film Scanning
The OptiPin (Optical Pin Registration) solution addresses the different type of film transport between capstan-driven and pin-registered film scanning systems. A capstan-driven film transport provides real-time and gentle film handling and can accommodate shrunken film or damaged perforations. Pin-registered film transports are slower and place stress on the film by forcing pins into the perforations.

The new OptiPin solution merges the advantages of both types of transport methods resulting in stability that is in the range of frame-by-frame pin-registered transport with real-time, continuous motion "touch-free" capstan methods. "Touch-free" handling means that no mechanical registration pins touch your film, making the OptiPin option an ideal solution for any kind of film stocks.

Image Stability
The OptiPin system scans the perforations and uses a special film guidance to make it less sensitive to film edge imperfections. From the perforation images motion vectors are generated to electronically stabilize the image. The motion vectors are passed through the Spirit's spatial image processor, which performs vertical and horizontal image positioning at an accuracy of 1/64 of an image pixel.

The resulting image stability is in the range of pin-registered transports with the benefits of real-time capstan driven transports, such as significantly faster speeds and gentle film handling.
